The Harold East Sonatina for Bass Trombone and Piano is a solo in two movements. David Stewart writes, "Interest in the bass trombone has increased tremendously over the last few decades and so has the standard. Unfortunately the repertoire has not grown at the same pace. I therefore mentioned this to Harold East and persuaded him to compose a piece for bass trombone and piano. We discussed the technical capabilities of the instrument and I suggested some stylistic possibilities. The resulting Sonatina displays many facets of playing, from long lyrical lines to more dramatic arpeggio figures. This welcome addition to the repertoire will be enjoyed by professional and amateur alike. I am sure everyone will find this new work both challenging and satisfying."
